Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in Auckland
You sit in a pressurised chamber and breathe high-concentration oxygen (around 90%) for 1 hour 40 minutes. The pressure forces oxygen into your blood plasma so it reaches tissue that normal breathing can't.
The Benefits
Strengthens immune response
Higher oxygen levels support your immune system and accelerate recovery.
Reduces inflammation
Helps diminish inflammation and swelling throughout the body.
Builds new blood vessels
Encourages the formation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis) in tissue.
Sharper mental clarity
More oxygen to the brain supports cognitive function, clarity and focus.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) means breathing high-concentration oxygen inside a sealed, pressurised chamber. That’s the whole idea. The pressure lets your body take on far more oxygen than it ever could breathing normal air at sea level, and that extra oxygen is what drives recovery and healing.
People often search for “oxygen therapy” when what they really mean is HBOT. The two aren’t the same. Supplemental oxygen through a mask, the kind given in hospitals, tops up people whose blood oxygen is low. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is different: it’s the pressure that does the work, pushing oxygen into places your circulation struggles to reach.
How hyperbaric oxygen therapy works
Normally your oxygen rides on red blood cells. Under pressure, oxygen dissolves straight into your blood plasma as well, so it can reach tissue that would otherwise stay starved of it. More oxygen in the blood means more reaching injured or inflamed areas, and that’s what supports faster recovery, lower inflammation and the growth of new blood vessels.
In our chamber you breathe around 90% oxygen at 2.0 ATA, which is roughly twice normal air pressure. Sessions run 1 hour 40 minutes. We build a plan around your situation, typically a course of 20 to 40 sessions, with meaningful change usually showing around weeks three to four.
The benefits of hyperbaric oxygen therapy
The benefits people report most come back to that one mechanism, more oxygen reaching tissue that needs it:
- Faster recovery from injury, surgery and hard training
- Lower inflammation and swelling
- Healthier skin and better wound healing
- Clearer thinking and steadier focus
- More consistent energy and sleep
We’ve written an honest, longer look at what the benefits of oxygen therapy actually are, including what it can and can’t do, and what it’s looked like for real patients in Epsom.
What HBOT is commonly used for
People come to us for a range of reasons. Some of the most common:
- Long Covid and lingering fatigue
- Concussion and post-concussion symptoms
- Sports injuries and recovery
- Cognitive function and brain fog
- Healthy ageing and energy
We’ll always give you an honest view on whether HBOT is likely to help with your situation before you commit to a course.
What a session is like
You settle into a certified five-person chamber with movie-theatre-style seating. As the pressure rises you’ll feel mild ear pressure, much like an aeroplane taking off, it settles quickly. From there, most people read, watch a movie or simply sleep. There are no injections and no recovery time afterwards.
How much it costs and how many sessions you’ll need
A single session is a set price, and most people do a course rather than a one-off, since the benefits build session to session. A typical plan runs 20 to 40 sessions depending on what you’re working on. You can see current rates and multi-session concessions on our pricing page, and we’ll map out a realistic plan with you before you start.
Is hyperbaric oxygen therapy right for you?
HBOT is non-invasive and well tolerated, but it isn’t for everyone. It’s not suitable if you have certain lung conditions, a history of collapsed lung, recent ear surgery, an active fever or severe claustrophobia. We screen for all of this before your first session, and we’ll give you an honest view on whether it’s likely to help.
No GP referral is needed, and there’s usually no long wait. Most people are booked in within one to two weeks.

What HBOT Can Help With
Long Covid
For Long Covid, HBOT goes after the low-grade inflammation and cellular damage sitting behind the fatigue and fog, rather than helping you cope with the symptoms day to day.
Read MoreConcussion
HBOT carries oxygen to injured brain tissue that reduced blood flow has been starving, giving stalled post-concussion repair the conditions to start again, even years later.
Read MoreSports Injury
HBOT accelerates recovery from soft tissue tears, stress fractures, and post-surgical swelling by pushing oxygen straight into the stalled, poorly supplied tissue holding you back.
Read MoreCognitive Function
HBOT dissolves oxygen into your plasma under pressure so it reaches brain tissue that ordinary circulation leaves short. A mechanism, run as a course of sessions.
Read MoreEczema
HBOT goes after the body-wide inflammation behind chronic eczema, reaching inflamed tissue throughout the body that creams and antihistamines never touch.
Read MoreSkin Tear
HBOT helps stalled skin tears in older adults close by dissolving oxygen into the blood plasma and carrying it to poorly circulated tissue standard wound care can't reach.
Read MoreHealthy Ageing
As we age, blood flow and oxygen delivery quietly taper off. HBOT floods the body with oxygen under pressure to support energy, recovery, skin and clearer thinking, giving ageing tissue what it needs to keep performing.

How does the oxygen reach my tissue?
Under pressure, oxygen dissolves directly into your blood plasma rather than relying only on red blood cells. That lets it reach areas normal breathing struggles to supply.
How long is a session and how many will I need?
Each session runs around 100 minutes. A typical course is 20 to 40 sessions, with improvements usually appearing around weeks three to four. We tailor the plan to you.
What does it feel like inside the chamber?
You sit comfortably in a five-person chamber with theatre-style seating. During compression you feel mild ear pressure, like an aeroplane taking off. Most people read, watch a movie or sleep.
Is it safe? Who isn't it suitable for?
It's non-invasive with no injections and no recovery time. It isn't suitable for people with certain lung conditions, a history of collapsed lung, recent ear surgery, an active fever or severe claustrophobia. We screen for this first.
