Sports Injury Treatment in Auckland

The frustrating injuries aren't the ones that heal on schedule. They're the ones that stall: the tear that's been ninety percent better for a month, the post-op site that won't settle. Usually the hold-up is oxygen not reaching the tissue that needs it, and that's the specific gap hyperbaric oxygen therapy fills.

Why Us

Why Choose Us For Sports Injury

Oxygen Where Hands-On Work Can't Reach

Under pressure, oxygen dissolves into your plasma and reaches inflamed, poorly circulated tissue that manual therapy and exercise alone can't resupply.

Fits Around Training

Sessions run 1 hour 40 minutes with no sedation and no downtime, so you walk out and carry on with your day.

The Largest Chamber In New Zealand

A certified 5-person chamber running at 2.0 ATA in Epsom, with a technician monitoring every session from outside.

Stacks With Your Physio

HBOT runs alongside your physiotherapist's plan rather than competing with it. Keep every appointment you already have.

Ask any physio and they’ll tell you: healing runs on oxygen. When an injury lingers, it’s usually because the damaged tissue isn’t getting enough of it. HBOT exists to close that gap.

The Oxygen Problem Behind A Stalled Injury

Injured tissue is often inflamed and poorly circulated, which is a bad combination, because that’s exactly the tissue that needs the most oxygen and gets the least. Normal breathing can’t force the issue, since oxygen delivery depends on blood actually reaching the site.

Inside the chamber, oxygen dissolves directly into your blood plasma rather than travelling only on red blood cells. Plasma seeps into the inflamed and under-supplied areas ordinary circulation can’t service well, and that surplus oxygen gives your body the raw material to finish a repair it had stalled on. For active Aucklanders, sooner supply usually means sooner back to training.

The Injuries That Respond Best

Soft tissue is the bread and butter here: torn ligaments, tendon damage, muscle tears. Stress fractures respond, and so does the swelling that hangs around after surgery. A lot of what we see walks in from Epsom, Newmarket, Remuera, and across the central suburbs, cycling overuse niggles, gym injuries, the stubborn stuff that physio alone hasn’t fully cracked.

A Session, Start To Finish

You’re at our Manukau Rd clinic in Epsom for 1 hour 40 minutes. Pressure builds gradually over the first ten to fifteen minutes, close to the feeling of a plane taking off, then you settle in. Most sports injury courses land in the 20 to 30 session range, and consistency is what makes them work. There’s nothing to recover from afterwards, so you head straight back into your day.

Why It Works Better Bolted Onto Physio

HBOT isn’t a replacement for your physiotherapist, it’s a multiplier. Physio handles load, movement, and strength. HBOT handles the oxygen supply to tissue that’s been running short. Run them together and you’re not picking one lever, you’re pulling both. Most of our patients keep both going the whole way through.

Coming Back From Surgery

Post-surgical recovery is one of the situations people most often ask us about. The rationale is oxygen supply: a healing surgical site depends on blood flow, and where that flow is weak the tissue is short of what repair actually runs on.

HBOT works on that supply directly, dissolving oxygen into your plasma so it reaches tissue that circulation is not servicing well. It runs alongside your surgeon’s and physiotherapist’s plan, never instead of it, and what it does for your particular recovery is a conversation to have with them and with us.

  • Reaches inflamed tissue and areas of poor circulation
  • Works on soft tissue tears, tendon damage, and stress fractures
  • Settles post-surgical swelling and supports wound repair
  • No downtime, walk out and get on with your day
  • Runs alongside your physiotherapist, not instead of them

Sports Injury FAQ

Questions, Answered

How many sessions should I plan for?

Soft tissue injuries generally sit in the 20 to 30 range. Post-surgical cases vary more. Get in touch and we'll give you a realistic figure for your specific injury.

Can I keep seeing my physio while I do this?

Yes, and most of our patients do. The two work on different things: physio drives movement and strength, HBOT drives oxygen into tissue that's been under-supplied. They pull in the same direction.

Is this only for muscle and tendon injuries, or does it help after surgery too?

Both. Post-surgical swelling, sluggish blood flow to a wound, and general tissue repair all respond well to oxygen delivered under pressure.

When's the best time to start after getting injured?

Once the acute, angry phase has calmed down. The sooner the tissue gets a proper oxygen supply after that, the better the repair conditions.
